# Customizing the Job Application Form

## Set each field to Required, Optional, or Off in the What applicants submit card.

You decide what each applicant has to send you. Maybe you require a resume but leave a cover letter optional, and skip the fields you do not need. AvaHR lets you set this per job so the application form matches the role.

### Where to set it

Application fields live on **Step 1: Job basics** in the **What applicants submit** card, whether you are creating a new job or editing an existing one.

### Set each field

For each field, choose one of three options:

- **Required**: the applicant must include it.
- **Optional**: the applicant can include it, but does not have to.
- **Off**: the field is left off the application form entirely.

The fields you can configure are:

- Resume/CV (defaults to Required)
- Cover letter
- Phone number
- Address
- LinkedIn URL
- Portfolio URL
- Website URL

Click an option to select it. When your choices look right, continue through the wizard and save the job so the changes apply.

### Tips

- Keep the form short. Every extra required field is one more reason a good candidate might drop off. Ask only for what you truly need to make a first decision.
- Want to ask role-specific questions too? Attach a **Screening questionnaire** on **Step 2: Description** instead of piling more fields onto the form.
